Movement: Direction, Choreography, & Performance

Emma is an accomplished physical performer. Whether it be in the form of yoga, hiking, track and field, fencing, or dance, she has always engaged with the world around her through physicality. She is drawn to work that requires presence in the body and with the world around you.

Emma has worked as a movement captain, consultant, assistant director/choreographer, and director on a number of plays and performances including Colossal, Let the Right One In, Mac Beth, and many others. Most recently, she choreographed for Sunday in the Park with George.

Additionally, she collaborated with dance partner Alan Kuang over three years to choreograph a trilogy of pieces: towards You, before You, and into You which were all performed at Boston University’s yearly Festival of Light and Movement: Aurora Borealis.

Directing

Emma has directed and assistant directed many works at Boston University including Colossal, The Director’s Project, and an upcoming new play reading. Most recently, she directed at Central Square Theatre for their Enough! Plays to End Gun Violence festival.

Emma is excited about stories with magical realism, female rage, queer love, and childlike wonder. In her practice, she seeks to center and uplift the voices of the voiceless, and honor the traditions of oral storytelling that have been passed down to us from the first inhabitants of this land.

She believes that everyone should be allowed in the room where it happens; actors, designers, and audience members alike.

Emma is a certified Level 1 Intimacy Director, Choreographer, and Consent-based Artist with IDC (Intimacy Directors & Choreographers).
